Wildland Fire Brigade (WFB) is a volunteer firefighter program that allows the community to receive wildland fire training so that they can safely protect their own properties and that of the other volunteer firefighters of the WFB during a wildland fire event.
Insurance companies and the ultra rich are using private fire personnel to protect very expensive properties. Unfortunately, the cost of hiring a private fire company is not economical for most people. WFB allows everyday citizens to work as a collective team and receive many of the same benefits of hiring a private fire agency.
The volunteers of the WFB receive the same wildland fire training as paid fire personnel and are required to take refresher training every year. The initial training is not easy and it takes time to complete but it is necessary to ensure that the volunteers of the WFB stay as safe as possible while they protect their property and the properties of other WFB volunteers. (Wildland Fire Training List)
A moderate level of physical fitness is required. A WFB volunteer firefighter must be able to walk 2 miles with a 25 lb. pack in 30 min.
WFB volunteer firefighters have three objectives:
- Learning and applying defensible space strategies and tactics to their properties before a fire event occurs.
- Completing initial Wildland Fire (WF) safety training and staying current with that training every year.
- Provide defensive WF tactics during a WF event for themselves and other WFB volunteers.
WFB volunteers are not required to respond to the properties of other volunteers unless they are available and want to help.
Anyone is eligible to apply as long as they are 18-yrs or older.
