Ken, In the USCGAUX we are usually tossing this throw-bag line to a boat in distress and use only side-arm. Our toss is at least 30 feet and usually more.It really takes practice to be accurate and succeed to that distance and more. We then attach a tow line to the end of the throw line. Martin Buncher
