All Wildland Fire Gear is required to follow NFPA 1977 standard and meet CAL Code; Article 10 §3410.1. Personal Protective Equipment for Wildland Fire Fighting.

Pricing is listed for reference only. WFB volunteers are responsible for purchasing their own PPE and can use any manufacture or distributer.

Gear Recommendations
The following are recommendations only. Our volunteer firefighters are able to buy what they want as long as it follows the NFPA 1977 standard.
- Pants: Workrite CAL FIRE 469NX 7.5 oz. Nomex IIIA Twill Wildland Dual-Compliant Tactical Pant. This is a single layer pant and is cooler than a brush pant that goes over a pair of cotton pants.
- Jacket or shirt: Both a jacket or a shirt is acceptable. The lighter the better since it will probable be hot when you are working to protect the property.
- Boots and Gloves: It is not necessary to buy NFPA 1977 boots and gloves. These items need to be 100% leather and not have a steal toe or shank. If you want 1977 Fire boots you can go to Fire ETC and try on several different types. (See Below)
- Fire Shelter: Buy a large unless you are a small person. They are easer to get into.
- Fire Shelter Belt: Firefighters use an expensive system called webbing gear to carry the fire shelter and other tools. A much cheaper option is to use a Fire Shelter Belt.
- Under garments: All undergarments must be 100% cotton. Woman must not have metal in their bra.
- Mask: Hot Shield makes an easy to use Nomex mask. A bandana works as well.
- Helmet: Bullard makes a full brim helmet that is also comfortable. Make sure to buy this in yellow.
- Helmet light: This can be any type of light. look for something light weight.
